P. G. Wodehouse was known as the performing flea of British literature. But what if I tried my hand at being the performing flea of the Ruby language? I mean, aging sardonic Kotlinists can ironically experiment with other stacks, right?
I haven’t posted there in a while, but some time ago I started a substack project.
Ruby “Gems” is/was something of a museum (or is it shrine?) to the weirdness of Ruby. I figure I might as well share an index of the posts here. I think some of the are alright, all of them are byte sized.
Posts:
- stealthy.rb - Ok. It’s just fundamentally an empty setter. But a surreptitiously sneaky setter.
- unfrozen.rb - Freeze, you’re it. Until you become a positive string. Wait. What’s a positive string?
- greedy-inheritance.rb - That isn’t so classy, is it? Or….a parable on the dangers of @@.
- A Nillion Dollars - Nothing to see here, except this.
- twist-and-shout.rb - But, wait. Who is doing the shouting?
- Home on the Range - But also down on the range.
- Inclusive Symbols - Ruby collects ’em all.
- Flipping Weird - 1, 2, skip a 3
- A Splitting Headache - You’d think this would be pretty predictable.
- An Include By Another Name Is Still An Include - Any way you want it, you got it.
Love it or hate it, Ruby sure provides a lot of opportunities to scratch your head.
